Ganjali Khan Mosque and Ganjali Khan Caravanserai in Kerman city are two monuments of the Ganjali Khan Complex, built in the 17th century by the order of the local governor of the time Ganjali Khan. Both monuments manifest exquisite works of Iranian art and architecture, as two of the top Kerman tourist attractions.

#1 Ganjali Khan Mosque

The small domed Ganjali Khan Mosque (Masjed-e Ganj Ali Khan) is located at northeast side of Ganjali Khan square and at the entrance of the bazaar.

Architecture of  Mosque

The Mosque was a private place of worship for Ganj Ali Khan and the place for prayers of school people and the caravansary.

The Mosque includes interesting prayer gallery with a beautiful dome and an entrance iwan. The iwan has simple facade, ornamented by artistic plasterwork, stone covers its floor, and there is a stone frieze on top of its wooden door.

Ganjali Khan Mosque

The plasterwork, cornice design, painting and framing are the pinnacles of the design and beauty of the Mosque. The other thing that may address your attention is the Mihrab (niche that shows the direction of Macca) which has a marble tablet with a drawing of a flowerpot.

The application of Masjed-e Ganj Ali Khan is no more for performing prayers and is currently a place with tourism intentions. This tiny but lavishly decorated mosque worth visiting if you want to get a feel of life in the old days.

#2 Ganjali Khan Caravanserai and Ganjali Khan School

Ganjali Khan Caravansary is one of the famous seminaries of Kerman located at the east of Ganjali Khan square.

The application of Ganjali Khan Caravanserai was first as a school (Ganjali Khan School) and then turned into a caravanserai. Currently it is the Faculty of Art of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman. The monument was registered as one of Iran’s national buildings.

Ganjali Khan Caravanserai Architecture and Design

Ganjali Khan Caravanserai (Ganjali Khan School) plan is one of the four-iwan typology, has double-story halls and chambers around, small iwans in front of each chamber and an octagonal fountain at the center of an irregular octagonal courtyard.

Four sides of the yard include four portals with great arch; the gables above the arches are designed with tiles.

The gables consist floral paintings along with the paintings of animal and legendary figures, which makes the beautiful facing.

The two backyards of the second floor are considered as one of the rare architecture items in Ganjali Khan Caravanserai.

Beautiful monuments! Ganjali Khan complex on the whole is an attractive site. with half a day excursion, we could visit all the sites, which were really interesting and diverse!
