Does Iran Have Winter? Located in a semi-desert region, Iran has a semi-arid climate. This fact brings a question to the minds of travel lovers: does Iran have winter at all? This issue become more important for tourists who love winter hobbies and sports. The answer is, fortunately: A big YES! Iran does certainly have a season called “winter” …!

 

Iran Is a Four-Season Country

Unlike what many tourists and travelers believe, Iran is not fully a desert. The central part of Iran, Kavir-Lout (Lout desert) and Dashte-Kavir (desert field) are the main and the driest parts of Iran. But you can still find snow-covered lands and highlands in other parts of Iran.

During the winter, many parts of Iran, including northern and western provinces, east north of Iran and some eastern borders of the country get plenty of snow. That is because Iran is home to 2 prominent mountain chains : Alborz stretching along the northern side, and Zagros along the west side of Iran, colliding each other on the northwest end of Iran.

In other seasons – spring and at the beginning of summer, and from mid fall onward – there are highlands which are always covered with snow to welcome those of you who are in love with snow-sports and activities.

Dizin is the most important ski resort in Iran and the Middle-East which is located in Alborz province.

Tochal is another ski resort in Iran. This ski resort in located in Alborz mountain, and is just next to the Capital of Iran, Tehran. Tochal is a popular recreational resort among Iranians.

#3 West and East Azerbaijan

Located in northwest of Iran, the two provinces of West and East Azerbaijan, are other regions that welcome snowy climate in almost all winter and fall. Sometimes there is snow in the region, even until mid-spring!

#4 Lorestan

Down the Zagros Mountain, Lorestan Province is another land in western Iran where you can find plenty of snow. This province is a truly four-season region and with its beautiful scenery will satisfy any taste, right at their entrance.
